This semester-long course introduces students to the practice of collaborative discussion and the benefits of shared inquiry for building connections and community. By examining barriers to engagement, students first consider what is required to create an inclusive classroom in which all voices are heard and respected. Guided by their instructor, students then investigate the role of cooperation and active listening in balancing discussion dynamics for improved interaction and enhanced understanding. Throughout, students connect lived experiences to enduring and foundational questions about the nature of society and our individual and shared roles and responsibilities.  This program emphasizes the role of listening to understand, self-awareness as a tool for growth, and the ways in which our thinking is shaped and reshaped through intellectual interactions and investigations.
