Exploring the Four Stages of Inclusive Discussion Series for Educators

What makes a discussion inclusive? What strategies can we use to ensure that all voices in our classrooms are heard and valued and that power and responsibility shift to students? How do these strategies change as a class develops throughout the year?

Whether as students or as teachers, we’ve all experienced class discussions characterized by dominance or passivity or where some participants are viewed as more legitimate than others. This free, drop-in, 2022-2023 quarterly series exclusively for educators will explore these barriers to inclusive discussion at each of The Four Stages and the strategies we can use to move beyond them. Teachers and administrators in all school contexts are invited to join us for one, all, or any of the sessions by signing up below.

Each session will include:

  • A Touchstones discussion focused on that month’s stage.
  • Time to connect with other Touchstones educators.
  • Practical strategies you can implement to make your next class discussion more inclusive.
  • A group you can tap into for ongoing support.

In the first session, we will engage in a Touchstones discussion focused on issues of participation, think deeply about how to be a bridge for all students and provide opportunities for various types of participation, and have time to connect with each other.
